SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Fans of the CrossFit workout program are invited to compete at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Two CrossFit affiliated gyms are sponsoring the first “Battle for the Hill” team competition. It will take place at the fairgrounds Aug. 10.

State Fair Manager Amy Bliefnick says she welcomes the event as a way to promote physical fitness. CrossFit is a strength and endurance program that combines weight lifting and aerobic exercise.

The competition will have six team divisions, including two divisions for teams 45 and older. Registration is $40 per person for entries before July 14. The registration fee then goes up to $50 per person.

The competition is sponsored by Capital City CrossFit of Springfield and ML CrossFit of Decatur.
